Religious Congregations Membership Study
The 2000 Religious Congregations Membership Study (RCMS) provides the most comprehensive profile of religious affiliation available for the United States. Building upon similar studies done in 1990, 1980, 1971, and 1952, the RCMS provides a county-by-county listing of religious congregations, their memberships, and their total adherents.

A book presenting these data for the entire United States is available for purchase from the Glenmary Research Center. The book includes a CD-ROM with data for the 2000 study and the four previous national studies, and a wall map showing the major religious family for each county.

Data and maps for a specific county or state may be retrieved interactively through the Association of Religion Data Archives (click on “Maps & Reports” on the ARDA home page). Also, beginning in July 2006, the 2000 data are available for free download through the ARDA.
